How often do I need to pay an employee?

State laws differ on how often you must pay your staff.  The regulations range from “no specific regs” (Alabama and South Carolina) to “depending on your occupation” (California and Michigan).  Most states require two pay days a month.

What you should do:  Know your state requirements, or you might be faced with fines and/or lawsuits.  Additionally, some states require you to notify every New Hire of the pay schedule.  Other states require the pay schedule to be posted where all employees can see it.
